Who do I work with?
I work one-on-one with learners who struggle with one or more topics or challenges in school. Challenges range from individual school subjects to generalized test anxiety to low academic self esteem, and other issues pertaining to the school environment. I currently work with clients managing mild learning disabilities and am working to become certified to address the challenges of students dealing with more severe learning disabilites.
How do I work?
1. I meet with each potential client to get to know the learner and discover his/her learning goals. This includes discussion with parents or guardians, if the student is under 18. I seek to pinpoint challenges and anxieties and to begin to discover how each learner best learns.
2. During sessions, students are offered a wide range of choices and creative possibilities with few boundaries. Kinesthetic activities may include working with colors, shapes, gestures, sounds, script, and/or imporvisation to construct a concept. For students who gravitate toward social media, I maintain a blog about learning. For parents and guardians, I regularly post "Articles of Interest" on my website.
3. As the school year progresses, I continue to check in with parents and guardians, and often with teachers and school councilors, to share progress and challenges.
